View all 3 comments. George Lutz makes an outrageous claim about a former owner and an Indian burial ground isn’t there always one and it doesn’t appear that Anson fact checked him at all. Fly infestation even in winter? I also appreciated that the story held together until the very end; in my opinion it never fell apart, and the horror never became fanciful or far-fetched as I’ve noticed with certain horror novels. It seems Jay Anson has lifted half of his previous novel The Amityville Horror and reused it here, or he just loves houses with evil spirits. There are many more films based on the idea of this particular house being haunted, however. View all 14 comments. That book messed me up.

The best part is that there are lesser flying furniture around and more simmering tensions among the characters to keep you hooked.

In December the Lutz family moved into a farm house in Amityville that had been the scene of a grisly murder. The Amityville Horror is a book whose reviews are all over the place. The book reads like a novel and the Wikipedia entry calls it a novel but the Library of Congress categorizes it as non-fiction, specifically demonology case-studies and parapsychology New York and it’s call number is BF This book was Predictable, writing so so, and very little in the way of offering something new.


Butch DeFeo was later tried for and found guilty of the murders of his family, and was sentenced to the Green Haven Penitentiary. The Lutzes had sold the rights to the book to Anson, who had added to and adapted some of the Lutz’s original claims. In my opinion, this book contained aspects of a classic haunting. But that was only the first few days of their stay.

About 15 years ago I picked up a copy of this book and had to put it down indefinitely. He was convicted of second-degree murder in November And for someone interested in the occult, it is, in fact, fascinating. Give me some description of who these people are and why I should care. Both o I read this many years ago, and a second time, also quite some time ago.

It’s a good concept, I just don’t believe that it actually happened the way the Lutzes claim it did. Several times during the ensuing ten or twelve years since I sent my copy of to my sister, I’ve found myself wishing that I could read it again.

In December t The s seems to have been the decade for the horror genre, especially ones focusing on demonic possessions. They were never easily angered before moving into the house.

I do say that since it is a classic horror novel I read this aaqui only for bingo, but also for my Horror book list that is recommended to horror readers, I am glad that I finally read this. Please note that I gave this book 3.

Sep 15, Ashutosh rated it really liked it. Other things randomly breaking? This was a very enjoyable ghost story, true or not. And just for the record, all of those Amityville movies suck too. Znson is a house that appears and disappears, seemingly at will; inexplicably moving from wnson to time, place to place, to torment the lives of the innocent.
